This painting is called Two Bears in Love. It’s an original oil on canvas panel, 18x24 inches, painted in 2025. The composition shows two big, bearded men locked together, staring face to face, their bodies pressed with power and intimacy. I wanted the brushwork to stay bold and physical, echoing the weight and strength of their forms.
This piece is directly connected to body positivity and the gay bear movement. For too long, gay male representation has often been limited to narrow body ideals. The bear community celebrates larger, hairier, older, and more rugged men—and I’ve always found that inspiring to paint. These men embody masculinity on their own terms, and showing them in art is a way of saying their bodies, their love, and their presence deserve respect and visibility.
In today’s climate, where queer culture is often under attack, a painting like Two Bears in Love pushes back. It celebrates love, strength, and intimacy between men whose bodies fall outside the “mainstream” mold. To collect and display work like this is an act of resistance, solidarity, and affirmation.
For me as an artist, this painting ties together my decades of exploring the male figure with my own belief that representation matters. It’s about showing the truth of who we are, without compromise.
