This is an original work not a print or a copy.

When I painted The Path to Paradise, I was trying to create an image that’s a little bit playful and suggestive—something that hints more than it shows. I’ve always liked how photographers like Helmut Newton used visual tension and texture to make something provocative without being explicit. That was the feeling I wanted to capture here: a mix of humor, sensuality, and painterly surface.

I was also experimenting with contrasts—both in color and in texture. The background is heavily worked with plastering knives, giving it a rough, almost architectural surface. Against that, the skin tones are smoother and modeled with bristle brushes that follow the direction of the muscles. I scratched in the hair with the back of a brush and pencil to add another kind of mark, something more tactile and graphic.

Color was another focus. I was trying to balance the warmth of the orange and pink flesh tones against a cooler, blue-gray background. The two work together to make the figure stand out and give a sense of physical presence.

This piece is on a thick, gallery-wrapped canvas, and I finished the edges so it’s ready to hang without a frame. It’s packed carefully, insured, and shipped directly from my studio in Illinois.
