Full Description This poster is a reproduction of my 2024 oil painting Satyr. The original is a large-scale, muscular nude figure with a cropped composition that focuses on the torso and gesture rather than the face. The figure pulls up a shirt, showing off exaggerated strength and presence. The proportions are intentionally stylized—broad shoulders, thick arms, and heavy musculature—so the figure feels monumental. I wanted to play with both naturalism and stylization: the anatomy is recognizable and believable, but it’s also exaggerated, with geometric planes of color shaping the muscles. The background is a flat, fiery orange-red, which pushes the figure forward and creates dramatic contrast. The composition is asymmetrical and designed for impact—most of the body fills the frame, while the cropping and the figure’s angled pose create tension and energy. It’s a very direct, confrontational image, built on the rule of thirds but leaning into imbalance for drama. When I painted the original, I used bristle brushes and built up thick strokes of color. The palette mixes earth tones with cool shadows, but the bright background makes it feel more saturated and modern. The giclée poster version captures those textures and colors in detail, with smooth matte paper that avoids glare. For me, this kind of work continues a long conversation between classical figure painting and contemporary culture. It draws on art history—from Baroque chiaroscuro to Bay Area Figurative expressionism—but updates it with a blunt, unapologetic focus on masculinity and presence.
