This portrait is one of the last remaining pieces from my Renovated Reputations project, which I showed at ArtHaus Gallery in San Francisco. I painted it in 2012 using a photobooth picture as a reference. The idea behind the show was to reimagine anonymous or forgotten faces—this one became “Owen D. Bank,” and it’s the only painting from that series I still have in my collection.

The painting is done in oil on masonite, 8x10 inches, and it’s set into a black thrift-store frame that brings it to about 9.5x11.5 inches overall. It’s part of my ongoing Fresh Finds project where I’m releasing legacy pieces that have been in storage for a while.

This portrait was also part of a flash fiction contest I ran alongside the show. Writers were invited to create a 1,000-word story about the character in the painting, and the winning stories were featured in a printed catalog alongside the artwork. If you’re interested, you can still submit a story—just check out the contest info on my website.
