This premium matte poster features a reproduction of my oil painting Early Release (original 16 × 20 × 1.5 inches on stretched canvas). It’s part of my ongoing exploration of the male body as both subject and surface — a place where texture, emotion, and gesture meet. The figure is cropped tightly, focusing on torso and hands, in a way that recalls Baroque artists like Caravaggio and Ribera, who used chiaroscuro and bold lighting to make flesh and paint feel alive.
In this piece, I wanted the paint itself to be the subject. Working alla prima in oil, I used stiff bristle brushes, plastering knives, and even the handle of a brush to scratch and carve into the wet pigment. The result is tactile — a physical, sculptural surface where the marks follow the flow of muscle and hair. The warm earth tones of ochres, siennas, and reds are balanced by a vivid blue background, which amplifies contrast and gives the work a modern, electric tension.
