This is Avoidance, the final print (8 of 8) from a limited reduction woodcut series I made in 1994 during my last year in the MFA program at the University of Cincinnati.
This print is completely intact with no damage—clean paper, strong lines, and excellent registration. It was made using the reduction method, which means I carved and printed multiple colors from a single block of wood, cutting away more of the block between each layer. Once the edition is complete, no more prints can be made from the block, making each one a permanent part of a finite series.
The image is based on a film still, and I created a preparatory drawing for it before carving. This particular print is the final one I pulled from the run—edition 8 of 8.
