This ships from Round Lake Beach, Illinois. A suburb outside of Chicago. I use UPS and sometimes US Post.
This painting is called "Sleeper," and I painted it in 2005. It’s 18x24 inches, oil on stretched canvas, and it comes in a 19x25 inch frame. It’s part of my Fresh Finds archive—a project where I’m releasing older work from storage that hasn’t been offered publicly before.
The figure is a young woman lying on a bed with blue patterned sheets. She’s wearing a white T-shirt pulled up, revealing her torso. Her legs are bare, and the perspective is from above, capturing her in a moment of rest with her hand gripping the bedsheet. The patterned bedding adds rhythm and contrast.
The figure is painted in a naturalistic style, with some stylized touches—like how the folds of the shirt and the bedding are simplified into larger, geometric brushstrokes. The anatomy is fairly accurate, though softened. I used directional brushwork to define the form and musculature, especially around the arms, legs, and torso. The curves of the body and the crumpled fabric create a flow that moves the viewer’s eye across the painting.
There’s no overt symbolism here—no iconography in the traditional sense—but like many of my works, it reflects my interest in intimacy, quiet moments, and the ways we occupy private space. It also connects to my broader interest in the figure, surface texture, and exploring how the human body can be framed and composed without relying on dramatic action or narrative.
