This ships from Round Lake Beach, Illinois. A suburb outside of Chicago. I use UPS and sometimes US Post.
This painting is called "After Hours Visit." I painted it in 2001, and it’s oil on wood panel, framed and ready to hang. It’s part of my Fresh Finds archive project—where I’m releasing older work from my studio storage that hasn’t been shown in years.
The scene shows two men in suits in what looks like a classic mid-century office setting. One is entering the room wearing a pink fedora. The other stands in a relaxed pose, leaning against a cabinet. They are caught in a moment—maybe a late-night check-in, maybe a new client.
The style here is a blend of naturalistic form and expressive brushwork. I painted this with heavy, deliberate strokes that emphasize the folds of the clothing and the architectural edges of the room. There’s strong use of geometry throughout—rectangles in the blinds, furniture, and door, and verticals and diagonals guiding the eye across the canvas. The anatomy is proportionally accurate, but stylized through color and gesture. The faces and hands are simplified, almost abstract in places, to keep the focus on posture and relationship.
Compositionally, it’s asymmetrical but balanced. The figure on the left enters the space with energy, while the man on the right holds it with a quieter, confident stance. The dark suit against the pale wall sets up strong value contrast. The open door creates visual bridge between the characters, organizing the space and suggesting narrative.
There’s an undertone of coded masculinity that shows up in a lot of my work from this period. Suits, gestures, office interiors—these were ways I could explore power, routine, and male relationships.
