This ships from Round Lake Beach, Illinois. A suburb outside of Chicago. I use UPS and sometimes US Post.

This painting is called "Interoffice." I painted it in 2001, and it’s 14x18 inches, oil on wood, in its original frame which brings it to about 16x20 inches total. It’s part of my Fresh Finds project—where I’m releasing work from my archives that hasn’t been shown or made available in decades.

The scene shows two men in what looks like a tense office conversation. One’s seated, dressed in a suit and fedora, the other leans forward in a white shirt with sleeves rolled up. There’s a framed portrait on the wall and a window that hints at city buildings outside. I was going for something that felt like a still from a mid-century noir film—compressed tension, unspoken dynamics, and that tight institutional space.

Stylistically, it’s a mix of naturalism and stylization. The anatomy is believable and expressive, but the forms are shaped with strong directional brushwork. I used exaggerated shadows and non-local color—especially in the flesh tones—to add drama. You’ll notice some geometric influence in the structure of the composition: rectangles and diagonals dominate the furniture, window, and posture of the figures. The brushstrokes are visible and textured, especially in the background and suits.

The composition is asymmetrical but carefully balanced. The figure on the right leans hard into the picture plane, which is countered by the more relaxed vertical posture of the man on the left.

As with a lot of my work, this piece reflects my interest in how masculinity is performed—how bodies take up space, what’s said versus what’s implied. I’ve always been drawn to the visual language of films of the mid-20th century.
