This ships from Round Lake Beach, Illinois. A suburb outside of Chicago. I use UPS and sometimes US Post.

This watercolor is titled Late Night Phone Call, and I painted it in 1995. It’s 9x12 inches on paper and part of my Fresh Finds series—work from my archives that I’m finally letting out into the world.

This one captures a quiet, intimate moment—a woman seated in a chair, phone in hand, mid-conversation. She’s surrounded by soft lighting and shadows, with a lamp and side table giving it that unmistakable late-night feel. Is she absorbed or maybe emotionally drained by the call?

I used watercolor in warm browns and muted ochres, working quickly with confident brushstrokes and minimal detail. The scene is naturalistic in its proportions and perspective, but still stylized in the way I reduced form to essential shapes. The woman’s face and posture are expressive, while the background and furniture are suggested with loose, abstract washes.

The composition is asymmetrical, anchored by the figure on the right and the lamp on the left, with the shadowy wall behind creating contrast and balance. There’s something cinematic about the setup—like a film still caught at a moment of quiet drama. This piece really reflects my interest in narrative and emotional storytelling through body language and light.

I painted this during a time when I was exploring memory, isolation, and domestic life. There’s no big message here—just someone trying to connect through a phone line, and maybe not getting the comfort they need. It’s about distance and presence at the same time.
