Pic of the week: Next week is National Eating Disorders Awareness Week. LGBTQ+ people face unique challenges that may put them at greater risk of developing an eating disorder. Research shows that, as early as 12, gay, lesbian, and bisexual teens may be at higher risk than heterosexual peers. Check out this interview with trans man Luke Knudsen on his ED recovery.
Seeking Exhibition Materials on Tobacco & LGBTQ Communities
The Archives, in partnership with Get Healthy Philly, is developing our summer exhibit which will center on the targeting of the LGBTQ community by the tobacco industry and our community's efforts to encourage tobacco cessation. Currently we're looking for documents, advertisements, ephemera, and objects that speak to these topics. Some examples:
Original copies of ads by the tobacco industry that target the LGBTQ community
Tobacco industry giveaways that are LGBTQ-focused (rainbow or Pride-themed packs of cigarettes, for instance)
Counter-marketing materials promoting tobacco-free LGBTQ living (bus shelter ads, protest signs, fun giveaways)
LGBTQ cessation program materials
Working cigarette vending machine
If you have anything like this or have suggestions for where we should look, please let us know by contacting email@example.com.

Second Nature, Brianna Shewan
As her first solo exhibition, Brianna will present a body of new photographic collages. Her deeply methodical process of deconstruction & reconstruction actualizes into transformed color field abstractions. Composed of “scales” made from strips of her own film photography, each piece is an amalgamation of her reality. Whether flower petals or shells, water, sky, or the more unapparent clippings, each collage at once collects & combines the artist’s experience while forming a concise and complex landscape of its own.

Welcome to the Ironside Playhouse: Photos, Film, and Ephemera from the Jack Van Alstyne Collection
For over three decades Jack Van Alstyne—known to many as "Cheezits"—captured in print and on film intimate depictions of his friends and acquaintances in the Philadelphia area. This included the many parties he hosted in his Camden, New Jersey home, affectionately known as the "Ironside Playhouse," where absolutely anyone was welcome and accepted.
Our galleries are available in the lobby whenever the center is open. Come visit!
