This week at the Palo Alto Art Center

Meet our new Director of Education
After an extensive search, we are delighted to announce our new Director of Education, Lucy Larson. Lucy comes to the Art Center from the San Jose Museum of Art where she has served as the Director of Education since 2009. Defining one of her goals as providing “the youth in our community with the opportunities to practice and deepen their artistic skills so they continue to view themselves as artists throughout their lives,” we believe Lucy to be an ideal fit to manage our children, teen and family programs and are excited to begin working with her in early May. Please join us in welcoming Lucy to the Art Center team!
Spring Family Day is this Sunday!
Spring has sprung and so has our free Spring Family Day at the Art Center this Sunday, March 29! Join us at the Art Center from 2-5 p.m. as we present hands-on artmaking projects for the whole family. Enjoy drawing activities inspired by our current exhibition, Hear This!, as well as a musical performance by students from Palo Alto’s School of Rock. Want to get in on the action first? Members receive exclusive early entry to the activities beginning at 1 p.m. Become a member now by going here

Color your World
Enroll in our new Beyond Black and White: Color Pencil Workshop this spring and discover the power and beauty of drawing with colored pencils. Working from photographs, students of all levels are invited to capture form and light with color! Class members will experiment with a variety of materials and techniques such as blending, hatching, and burnishing as they develop their compositions. The workshop begins April 8, and there is a materials fee. Sign up now!

Hop on Board for Oliver Ranch Tour!
Join the Palo Alto Art Center Foundation on Saturday, May 9, for a private tour of the beautiful Oliver Ranch in Sonoma County, featuring 18 remarkable site-specific art installations by such noted artists as Ann Hamilton, Richard Serra, and Andy Goldsworthy. Because cars are not allowed into the ranch, we will provide a coach bus leaving the Art Center at 6:45 a.m., and returning at 4 p.m. Cost is $125 Foundation members; $175 non-members. Breakfast, lunch, and snacks are included. Space is limited, so register today!
